In February 2012, a couple dozen skiers and snowboarders set out to accomplish an incredible—some may say absurd—task: to descend 100,000 vertical feet in one day, or 107 runs at Whitetail Resort in Mercersburg, PA.
There was a mission behind their madness: To raise funds for and awareness of the Two Top Mountain Adaptive Sports Foundation, a rapidly growing nonprofit that services disabled veterans in the nearby Baltimore/Washington region, along with a wide range of disabled civilian athletes. Their 12-plus hour adventure raised more than $12,000 for Two Top in its inaugural year.
In 2013, another group of over 30 took to the slopes to try to double that amount. They succeeded, and the $25,000 they raised enabled Two Top to provide a record 370 lessons that winter. Roughly 260 of those lessons went to disabled veterans and their families, who never pay a dime for a Two Top lesson—lodging, equipment, lift tickets, meals and a friendly instructor who skis with the student all day are all provided free of charge.
On Feb. 10, 2014, we raised over $76,000 for Two Top via the 100K Vertical Challenge, and expanded to event to include team participation, which included an all-adaptive team. Two Top taught 763 ski and snowboard lessons during the 2013/2014 winter season, with over 500 of those lessons for disabled veterans and their family members. Over the summer Two Top also taught 75 water ski lessons to disabled veterans.
On Feb. 9, 2015, we raised over $104,000 for Two Top via the 100K Vertical Challenge exceeding our goal of $100,000. Two Top taught 775 ski and snowboard lessons during the 2014/2015 winter season, with over 550 of those lessons for disabled veterans and their family members. Over the summer, Two Top taught 90 water ski lessons to disabled veterans. Thanks to your donations our wounded veterans and their families never pay a dime.
On Feb. 29, 2016, We are setting out to accomplish our most ambitious goal yet: to raise $150,000 for Two Top. Come out and have fun raising money for Two Top!
